“What do you think of Fauci being pardoned?” The messages rolled in as then President Biden issued a preemptive pardon on his last day in office.

While I’m less than thrilled about Fauci’s pardon, I never had much confidence in him being held accountable. Our track record as a country on holding government officials accountable is pretty poor.

Biden pardoned Fauci “preemptively” meaning for crimes he may have committed but has not been charged with or convicted of, from January 1, 2014 to January 19, 2025. The pardon, while appalling was not unexpected and, in my opinion, is especially hurtful to those who received subpar treatment or lost loved ones during the COVID years.

Stay home stay safe and for goodness sake, wear a mask.

“People are dying, it’s the least you can do.” This is what we heard. It was parroted over and over, so much so that people forget how much the guidance ‘evolved.’ On March 8, 2020, Dr. Fauci went on the TV show 60 minutes and stated clearly, “there is no reason to be walking around with a mask… it might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet here and there but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think it is and often there are unintended consequences.” Then, just a few weeks later he moved on to different guidance: keep a 6 foot physical distance and wear a cloth mask. In a Politico interview on May 27, 2020 he’d changed his tune again, he said, “it (a mask) isn’t 100% effective” but it’s “sortof respect for the other person and have that other person respect you.” “I also want to make it a symbol for people to see.”

He flip flopped back and forth and eventually drew a hard line, shoving ‘the rules’ down the throats of the American people while tossing out the first pitch at an empty stadium and all around not abiding by them himself. Finally in congressional hearings we learned what we knew all along, the 6 foot social distance, directional shopping and masking were not based on any science or study whatsoever, they were… pulled out of thin air.

The Vaccine

As the vaccine rolled out Fauci continued his TV tour advertising for Pfizer, Moderna and J&J on the taxpayer’s dime.  He claimed the shot offered near 100% effectiveness and attested to its safety while keeping the number of people he felt would need to be vaccinated for “herd immunity” and necessity for endless boosters… or any boosters for that matter, close to the cuff until he felt people could  (paraphrasing) “handle that information.”

In other words he knowingly lied multiple times on national television because he thought the truth would harm his message and his ability to gain the compliance of the American people.

People were given fraudulent information about the vaccine’s ability to stop transmission and it’s safety as they made choices to get this shot that was manufactured at “warp speed.” CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid) eventually mandated all healthcare workers take it or face job loss, military was impacted, some states issued mandates for state employees and teachers… and the list goes on.

All of this was bad enough. The consequences of the knowingly bad information were many however, the most obvious harm that is continually overlooked is the impact of Dr. Fauci denouncing the lab leak theory.

The most harmful lie

The origin of the virus has been discussed plenty and often. Every time a new piece of information comes out pointing to the Wuhan Lab as the origin and away from the “wet market” you get a few days of chatter, “another conspiracy come true.” But the thing that is always missing from the conversation is why this lie in particular matters so much.

Let’s go back to stay safe stay home, masks and social distancing… this is what we were given “to do,” a list of actions that gave followers a false sense of security. Some actions to take that might make people “feel a little bit better” (Fauci admitted that himself in the 60 minutes interview).

While people were following the guidelines to make themselves “feel” like they were doing something and yelling at anyone who refused, we were all being told the virus probably came from a bat at a “wet market.” Of course, many of us didn’t believe that, but it didn’t matter whether we believed it or not. It mattered that the government and the media bought in, and they did, at least enough to halt a meaningful line of questions and subsequently stop knowledge of the origin from being helpful in any way.

How the lab leak cover-up harmed

Back in June of 2020 that was my concern, covering up the origin was potentially massively hurting people and that’s the concern still today. How many people fell ill and died receiving subpar treatment while Dr. Fauci tried to deflect attention from the most obvious point of origin in order to cover his tracks and save his skin? If the virus came from a lab, if it was being studied, it is very likely that we knew much more about this virus than previously thought.

By denouncing the lab leak theory, Dr. Fauci denied the American people the opportunity for information. Could that information have saved lives? We’ll never know.

Even without an investigation early on of the lab to gather information we could have proceeded in treating people much more effectively than we did. Remdesivir caused great harm in my opinion, ventilators tend to get the focus but it’s Remdesivir and a gamete of actions and inaction that culminated in more death than necessary.

prime protein discountAnother lie…

One other lie that tends to be forgotten and should not be overlooked: the lie that we were all equally at risk. When I spoke out about pre-existing conditions, obesity and other lifestyle choices as risk factors, I was told that I was “literally killing people.” I had critical care nurse practitioners that I had worked with for years tell me I was discriminating against obese people by publicly, on my own time, pointing out obesity as a major risk factor.

But now Pfizer runs commercials for their antiviral drug Paxlovid specifically marketing to the obese person with diabetes or heart disease. Apparently it’s ok when Pfizer says it.

The CDC now says it too, according to the website obesity alone tripled the risk of hospitalization due to COVID.

As the saying goes, hindsight is 20/20. But some of us didn’t need to wait to see things clearly, we had foresight… some might call this, common sense. But despite Fauci’s many television appearances, BMI and preexisting conditions weren’t a focal point of discussion seen as high priority communication to the American people. The focus was always, masks, the “symbol” of what we should be doing, social distancing, vaccines and perpetuating his made up theory of origin.

It was always more important to maintain the appearance of ‘taking COVID seriously’ than to actually take it seriously.

Fauci had some help

Bottom line, a lot of people suffered harm secondary to the guidance and lies from Dr. Anthony Fauci. Taxpayers are still paying his salary and the ability to hold him accountable at the federal level has been removed. But is Fauci the only point of accountability?

There’s a lot of blame that should rightly rest on Fauci’s shoulders as the former director of National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease but he is only one man… one non-elected man at that. There is a slew of people that come to mind that could have changed the situation that could have called for early investigation into the origin, provided better treatments, bucked the mandates, etc. from elected officials meant to run the checks and balances… the President (Trump actually awarded Fauci with Presidential Commendation as a member of the Warp Speed team), Congress & governors (some tried) to non elected private citizens such as doctors, healthcare admins, teachers and the American people at large.

Fauci is one man, one man that yes, should be held accountable but one man that the majority of America blindly followed.

Waking up, one thing leads to another

For many people 2020 was their “wake up” and when you wake up to corruption you eventually also wake up to the sad reality of unrealized formal accountability. It so rarely happens. Often I get messages saying, “the truth is all going to come out” and, if I were southern I’d reply, “bless your heart.” But I’m not and honestly I agree in a roundabout way. While I think the likelihood of truth, accountability and eyes wide open for all is unlikely based on our historical track record, we have eternity.

So if you want to know what I think of the Fauci pardon, I never expected much to come his way in terms of putative action or even a verbal pinning of responsibility to him. I have never hung my hat on victory in an earthly sense over the COVID evils. That can be confusing to some as I remain steadfast in my call for accountability even while realizing it’s improbability. But I believe both our actions and hope should match what we know. We shouldn’t lay down as doormats and stop calling for accountability. We press on doing right and shedding light on the truth while keeping our hope rooted in the promise of eternal deliverance.
